About PCWC Symposium 2016
The Prairie Child Welfare Consortium is pleased to host the 8th Biennial Symposium, October 26, 27, and 28, 2016 in Winnipeg Manitoba. The symposium will be held at the Best Western Plus Winnipeg Airport Hotel. The symposium will feature research and promising practices making to effectively support vulnerable children, families and communities.
The event will appeal to cross-sectoral, multidisciplinary service providers, educators, government and agency staff, policy-makers and researchers concerned about child and family well-being.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission has provided an opportunity for the residential school survivors to tell their stories and provided a voice for their stories to be heard. Many Aboriginal People are still living with impact of residential schools every day. The Truth and Reconciliation Commission challenges all of Canadian Society to move forward in the Spirit of Reconciliation. The first five recommendations of Truth and Reconciliation Report address needed changes in Child Welfare. This conference provides an opportunity to work on imagining a child welfare system that moves forward in spirit Reconciliation.
Many Canadian provincial and First Nations child welfare agencies are implementing changes aimed at creating more dynamic and sustainable systems. Academics, researchers and practitioners are also forging dynamic interdisciplinary partnerships across jurisdictional and provincial boundaries to develop strategize on how to improve service delivery and professional accountability.
Whilst substantial challenges remain in Canadian Child Welfare systems, there is also hope that ongoing and proposed transformations will foster and celebrate resilience and maximize benefits to children, families, communities and other stakeholders.
